Our Top Celebrity & Runway Looks from Vogue World 2024: Paris

After a short hiatus, I am back and recapping the Vogue World 2024 fashion show that took place in Paris, France a few weeks ago! I did not get a chance to watch the live-stream (thank you final exams), so this article is coming a little late, but it was an amazing show that I am excited to dissect a little and share my favorite looks from. This year’s Vogue World is the 3rd annual show, paying homage to last several decades of French fashion relative to sports as a nod to the Olympics also taking place in Paris this month.

This was my first time viewing Vogue World, and I think it may have taken the Met Gala’s spot for my favorite fashion event of the year. This year’s production was incredible. Everything was so flawless, from the dancing, to the clothes, to the celebrity sightings on the runway. It was engaging to watch and I will be seated every year from now on!

Our Top Celebrity Looks

We’re starting off strong with this look from Brazilian singer Anitta by Balmain. This dress is so doll-like and pretty and structured. I love the rosettes and the color compliments her skin so well. The structure of the dress comes from the latex used to construct it. She really does look like a doll, and I love that they complimented the dress with shoes and minimal jewelry in order to not distract from the dress.

This look for Mona Patel by designer Stéphane Rollard is so beautiful and a nod to Greek mythology and it’s fitting considering the Greeks are the originators of the Olympics. This gown is so beautiful, I love the floral structure and the way it fits the body. The laurels are also a really beautiful and elegant touch. Patel’s stylings are something I now look out for after her initial Met Gala look by Iris Van Herpen in May, cementing her on the high fashion scene. This look by Rollard is definitely a hit for sure, and I’m excited to see more looks from her!

Our top Runway Looks

There were so many amazing runway looks from the show. The first part of the show was dedicated to a promenade of with the hardest hitter for me being this Balenciaga ballgown worn by Alex Consani. This ballgown was absolutely amazing and watching Consani strut to Beyonce was definitely my favorite moment from the entire show. Black ballgowns are so beautiful when done well, and I love the silhouette, I love the off-the-shoulder details, and I love the sexy high-slit that allows the ruffles to cascade down her figure.

The concept of the rest of the runway show was very interesting and fun. I loved seeing the progression through all the different eras of French fashion relative to sports, especially with the Olympics set to take place in Paris later this month.

For the era of aquatics in the 1940s, we have the reference to the rise of aquatics and the creation of the bikini. The bikini was created by Louis Réard, and through the end of the 1940s and the 1950s, the bikini was seen as a controversial piece of clothing. Now it’s the swimsuit of choice for many women after going more mainstream in the 1960s. In the image, I have highlighted my two favorite looks from the collection by French designer, Jacquemus. A classy twist on the normal bathing suit, these resort dresses are a call to vintage swimwear with the stripe motif seen throughout the entire collection.

The other era I favor is the 1970s with the call to gymnastics. The above dresses by Givenchy are essentially extensions of gymnastics leotards in a more elevated way, and I love the feminine silhouettes of these dresses. The bold colors, sequins, and ruching are akin to the aesthetic chaos of a gymnastics leotard, and I love the bright and fun colors of these pieces.

This look worn by Anok Yai by Alaïa is another one of my favorites with the fitted silhouette and bold and streamlined colors of the French flag. This dress is a nod to an archival Alaïa piece made for American singer Jessye Norman, who gave an amazing performance for the French bicentennial celebrations in 1989. This modern rendition of the original dress is so beautiful and classy while paying respect to an important moment in French history.

Finally, the last look of the show was worn by Gigi Hadid. She stunned in couture Balmain. The dress takes inspiration from the French Revolution and Marianne de France with the gold bustier and the royal blue of the French flag. This dress was so perfect to close out the show with it being elegant, modern, and sexy, while drawing inspiration from another important moment in French history.
